Congratulations David on being named FPA MA’s Volunteer of the Year.

David Santoro has been a member of the FPANE Military Pro Bono Group since 2011 and has made a tremendous impact on the program throughout his involvement. David’s involvement with the group was well suited as he spent 23 years in both the Army National Guard and Army Reserve, retiring in the rank of Major. With these years of service he brings a vast amount of experience of both the military culture and traditions, but also the financial issues and considerations that are unique to Servicemembers and their families.

David’s contributions to the group have been varied. He began his involvement by participating in Yellow Ribbon programs designed to provide financial guidance to Servicemembers getting ready to deploy and for those recently returned home from deployment.  For three tax seasons David provided free tax preparation services at Camp Edwards saving Servicemembers and their families thousands in tax preparation fees.  He has sponsored a Homes for Our Troops beneficiary and worked with the disabled veteran and his family to make sure that they were financially stable before accepting their house. He has traveled around eastern Massachusetts providing presentations on everything from the Thrift Savings Plan to 529 Plans.  Last year he even provided a presentation at the FPA National Conference last year about best practices for setting up a military pro bono program.

David is being presented with the Volunteer of the Year award because of his consistent and substantial contribution to the financial wellbeing of the Servicemembers and Veterans in Massachusetts and beyond. His contributions to the program bring great credit upon himself, his fellow volunteers and the Financial Planning Association of New England.

Congratulations David.
